چکیده

This work is devoted to the numerical simulation of an incompressible fluid through a porous interface, modeled as a macroscopic resistive interface term in the Stokes equations. We improve the results reported in [M2AN 42(6):961–990, 2008], by showing that the standard Pressure Stabilized PetrovGalerkin (PSPG) finite element method is stable, and optimally convergent, without the need for controlling the pressure jump across the interface. Key-words: Stokes equation, porous interface, stabilized finite element method. ∗ INRIA, REO project-team and Weierstrass Institute, [email protected]. † INRIA, REO project-team, [email protected]. A Hybridized Crouziex-Raviart Nonconforming Finite Element and Discontinuous Galerkin Method for a Two-Phase Flow in the Porous Media

In this study, we present a numerical solution for the two-phase incompressible flow in the porous media under isothermal condition using a hybrid of the linear lower-order nonconforming finite element and the interior penalty discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method. This hybridization is developed for the first time in the two-phase modeling and considered as the main novelty of this research. The p...

Analytical and numerical investigation of heat and mass transfer effects on magnetohydrodynamic natural convective flow past a vertical porous plate

The aim of this investigation is to study the effect of hall current on an unsteady natural convective flow of a viscous, incompressible, electrically conducting optically thick radiating fluid past a vertical porous plate in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field. The Rosseland diffusion approximation is used to describe the radiative heat flux in the energy equation. Analytical a...

Numerical Evaluation of Hydraulic Fracturing Pressure in a Two-Phase Porous Medium

Hydraulic fracturing is a phenomenon in which cracks propagate through the porous medium due to high pore fluid pressure. Hydraulic fracturing appears in different engineering disciplines either as a destructive phenomenon or as a useful technique. Modeling of this phenomenon in isothermal condition requires analysis of soil deformation, crack and pore fluid pressure interactions. In this paper...

Absolute Permeability Calculation by Direct Numerical Simulation in Porous Media

Simulating fluid flow at micro level is an ongoing problem. Simplified macroscopic flow models like Darcy’s law is unable to estimate fluid dynamic properties of porous media. The digital sample reconstruction by high resolution X-ray computed tomography scanning and fluid-dynamics simulation, together with the increasing power of super-computers, allow to carry out pore-scale simulations throu...

Interface-tracking and interface-capturing techniques for finite element computation of moving boundaries and interfaces

We provide an overview of some of the interface-tracking and interface-capturing techniques we developed for finite element computation of flow problems with moving boundaries and interfaces. This category of flow problems includes fluid–particle, fluid–object and fluid–structure interactions; free-surface and two-fluid flows; and flows with moving mechanical components. Both classes of techniq...
